About Us

For more than 30 years, we’ve described our business as a design-build firm.  We design and often serve as the general contractor for the residential plans we develop.  And these days we add "Merchant" to our job title.  Here's how that happened:

Early in 2013, we moved from Fort Worth so we could live on our farms and work in the area we now call home.  We set up our office in the historic Wooden Indian Building at 118 N. Pecan Street in Hico, Texas.

The building was much larger than we needed for an office, so to optimize the space, we opened a retail store on the first floor in October 2013.  Initially we sold furniture and accessories…a nice complement to the design business.

We soon realized that most of our shoppers were tourists traveling between the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the Texas Hill Country, so we began adding items customers could take home as a reminder of their trip: home accessories, candles, men’s gifts, books, toys and jewelry.  Today the inventory is a collection of all things cool about Texas...from Lone Star T-shirts to handcrafted farmhouse tables.

One thing we didn’t count on…the store brings clients to the design part of our business. Often customers come in to shop, wander back to Cindy’s drafting table to watch her working on a house plan…and soon we find out that they’re in the area to buy land and are going to need a new home on their farm or ranch. We can't claim that was a deliberate marketing strategy...just a fortunate consequence of opening the store.

We're thankful every day to be here, working with great people who share our passion for this part of Texas.
